How will the funds be used?

100% of the funds raised will be donated to St. Andrew’s Clinic who provides oversight for the rhinoplasty surgery for youth. All fundraising costs including materials and professional services are donated by the Storytrail Foundation.

What is rhinoplasty surgery?

Cleft rhinoplasty reshapes the nose in patients with an uneven nasal appearance due to cleft lip and palate. Some common reasons people want a cleft rhinoplasty: Improve an uneven appearance of the nostrils. Relieve nasal airway obstruction.

Where are the surgeries performed?

Families in Mexico travel by bus as long as 30 hours to get the life-changing surgery for their children at Hospital CIMA in Hermosillo.

This effort is a collaboration of St. Andrew’s Children’s Clinic, Children’s Surgery International and Hospital CIMA in Hermosillo.

Hospital and clinic volunteers assist with screening patients, COVID testing, completing all paperwork, translating for physicians and families and photographing patients. In 2022, Rotary volunteers entertained the children awaiting surgery to help distract them from their fears.

What is the role of Laura Romero?

Laura Romero serves as the head of St. Andrew’s, Children’s Clinic which also operates a monthly clinic in Nogales, Arizona. Romero’s mother began St. Andrew’s Children’s Clinic more than 50 years ago when she could not find medical care for her son with cerebral palsy. Romero is being honored as the Peace Hero of 2023 by the Storytrail Foundation in Tubac, AZ and will be presented with a check on March 11 to help fund the surgeries.
